Jan Herbert

Jan joined Valley Invicta Academies Trust in 2017 having been the Headteacher at Valley Invicta Primary School at East Borough since 2010.

Of her 47 years in education, the last 25 have been in the role of Headteacher in three schools, as well as Local Authority Primary Excellence Headteacher, where she directly supported 10 schools and also took on a wider role supporting a collective group of schools in Ashford.

Jan believes in strong collaborative partnerships and building a culture where colleagues enjoy their craft and where pupils thrive. She currently works with our five primary schools to share ideas and continue developing high-quality teaching and learning, and positive outcomes for all pupils.

Her passion for teaching began in 1978 with responsibilities across the primary age range and a developing specialism in Early Years and Key Stage 1. Wider roles included the development of music and musical performances. Jan is particularly keen for pupils to access wider opportunities in the arts, music and sports curriculum, as a route to pupils developing fully independent and fulfilling lives.
